Fish Maw Encyclopedia 2: Translucent Fish Maw

花膠百科 2: 會透光的花膠 - On Hing Dry Seafood

Last time, we talked about the natural color of fish maw, and we knew that Anxinghao does not use bleach or chemical additives. So, how can we distinguish the authenticity of fish maw and learn the second point of choosing high-quality fish maw: transparency.

Fish maw, when held under light, will appear crystal clear and free of impurities. If it's opaque, has shadowy areas, and appears white (the natural appearance of fish maw), it may be "heart maw": the surface of the maw appears dry, but the inside is not yet completely dry. In this case, the maw will easily mold and spoil, and if it already has a pungent odor, it's completely inedible. So how can you tell if it's fake? Fake fish maw won't be translucent and will appear cloudy and rough. The texture of the maw won't be visible, and it might even look like synthetic maw. An Xing Hao's fish maw may appear thin and lacking in texture; however, when it comes to distinguishing authenticity from counterfeit, ours is the best. As for thickness, the truest quality is revealed after the fish maw has been soaked!
